Second Coming - Aborted - April 22, 2005
Posted: April 22, 2005

Wouldn't it be ironic if an abortion resulted in a snag for the second coming of Jesus Christ?

There are a couple possible angles to this:

  • One, this could be viewed as pro-abortion or pro-christian since Christians both oppose abortion and welcome the second coming. I tend to disagree about it being either pre-christian or pro-abortion and it certianly was not written to be. However, I do think that my ironic thought does denote an interesting dichotomy in our reasoning which essentially de-emphasizes the stark and unpleasant realities about the process in favor of the positive aspects: in short, the ability for a woman to terminate a pregnancy, for whatever reasons or circumstances, without having to endanger her health/life doing it in the proverbial "back alley".
  • Two, since the second coming would, for all intents and purposes, involve the end of the world... abortion could inadvertently spare the world of an untimely demise (or at least defer the end of the world until such a time as we can take care of that by our own means, accidental or otherwise, leaving higher powers to tend to their other pressing issues)
